Island News: Waiting for Ikea
Waiting for Ikea
We should have pointed out in the Play Notes we sent you that 'Waiting for Ikea' does contain strong language. The report we have had from other venues is that the play is being very well received – it is very funny and extremely well acted, but its bad language could offend. It is very important to note that Waiting for Ikea is NOT suitable for audiences of 16 years and under.
Kind regards,
Laura Power

(I believe the play will be performed on Cape Clear on the 25th August. I have had good reports of the other two in the tour and certainly the group put on three excellent productions last year. I trust this note will not detract from the audience on the island, but we should appreciate the responsible action of Laura Power in issuing the warning. Ed – Editor)

Island News: Shape-shifting islands defy sea-level rise
§ 02 June 2010 § by Wendy Zukerman § Magazine issue 2763.
(newscientist.com) AGAINST all the odds, a number of shape-shifting islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean are standing up to the effects of climate change. For years, people have warned that the smallest nations on the planet - island states that barely rise out of the ocean - face being wiped off the map by rising sea levels. Now the first analysis of the data broadly suggests the opposite: most have remained stable over the last 60 years, while some have even grown.

Island News: Rathlin Island Ferry Limited - An Unexpected Revelation
I had a rather unusual encounter the other day with Ciaran O Driscoll, one of the directors of Rathlin Ireland Ferry Limited. He was obviously a bit agitated. He was anxious to impress on me that my stories about company operations in Co Antrim and Co Cork were too negative.
